Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has narrated to the BBC how a group of PF cadres involved in illegal land allocation tried to kidnap him in Matero yesterday.

And Sampa has warned those planning to harm him that in addition to carrying a firearm, he will start going to the gym so that he can defend himself physically.

On Monday the Mayor clashed with a group of PF youths when he tried to sort out a land dispute in Matero, his former constituency.

In a video that has been doing the rounds on social media, the angry youths could be seen pointing fingers at Sampa and demanding that he stops interfering in their operations saying they did not vote for him as Mayor in order for him to come and cause confusion.

Sampa later told the BBC Focus on Africa in an interview that shortly after he had concluded his inspection tour of Matero, his entourage was ambushed by a bus load of PF cadres who tried to abduct him.

He says quick action by police foiled the alleged kidnap attempt.

According to Sampa, the incident is what promoted him to post on his Facebook page photos of him brandishing a pistol, which he has since deleted.
