Some residents of Choma District in the Southern Province have appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend the voters cards replacement exercise for another  week.

The exercise to replace lost or defaced voters cards started on December 27, 2014 and ended today with the ECZ maintaining that there will be no extension.
Coster Mwale Of Masuku Terminal Of Choma about 72kilometres from Choma town one of the victim who lost his voters card said the exercise should be extended because people are still flocking to the centres to get new cards.

He told SKY FM News during a spot-on check at Chuundu Secondary School today just after the centre was finally closed for registration that people have been at the centre for many hours waiting to be attended to considering that today is the last day of the exercise but would have be wise if the registration had be extended.

Mwale however said ECZ officials at the Chuundu Secondary school centre had doing everything possible to ensure that the large number of people who want to replace their voters cards are attended to before the close of the exercise later today.
And Boyd Mweemba Of Makeni in Lusaka travelled from Lusaka to Choma to replace his card today said it was cardinal that the ECZ extends the voter card replacement exercise to enable more people be attended to.
Mweemba said although there were few people replacing their lost voters cards at the centre there is need for the ECZ to extend the replacement exercise.
He disclosed that the extension would have accommodate people who have been transferred to other towns to replace their voters cards.
Mweemba expressed concern that that many people who were being transferred to other towns have been be disenfranchised if the ECZ does not extend the voter registration exercise for a considerable period.
some ECZ officials found at the centres monitored by SKY FM News refused to comment on the extension of the exercise.

  1. people in choma are very much right. 2weeks would have been enough for most zambians to replace their lost voters cards. why only a week? allow more people to vote, just extend. ninshi iwe? we want more voters on 20th jan 2015 to take hh to the toilet in the bush, without a tissue, and masebo behind him with a hoe to….. hey! vote for pf. 2. Replacement of voters card should be extended up to one week before the 20 January 2015. If not then the ECZ is in league with PF to disenfranchise voters in Southern Province.
