Red Arrows striker wins big at MTN Super League awards

Red Arrows striker Ricky Banda was the big winner on Wednesday evening as he walked away with two awards.

The long awaited 2021/2022 MTN Super League awards were finally held at Lusaka’s Taj Pamodzi Hotel.

Banda was named the player of the year seeing off competition from Green Eagles’ Hosea Silwimba and former teammate Tresor Tshibwabwa.

The Chipolopolo forward also walked away with the top goalscorer accolade having netted sixteen goals and helping the Airmen to their second league title.

Banda’s head coach Chisi Mbewe was named as the gaffer of the year beating off competition from Boyd Mulwanda of Kansanshi Dynamos.

Power Dynamos tricky midfielder Joshua’Budo’ Mutale walked away with the young player of the year after an exciting season with the Kitwe based side which has seen him get national team call ups.

2012 AFCON winner James Chamanga was named as the most disciplined player ahead of Winston Kalengo and Hosea Silwimba.

Copper Queens midfield ace Mary Mwakapila who is unwell was honored with the President’s award.

China based Copper Queens star Barbra Banda received the award on behalf of Mwakapila.

Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape was also honoured for his work in qualifying the team to the Olympics.

Mathews Hamalila was named as the referee of the year ahead of former winner Janny Sikazwe and Audrick Nkole.

Chiwoyu Sinyangwe, Thomas Kaela and Diana Chikotesha were up for the Assistant Referee of the year award with Kaela getting the award.

Assistant Referee: Thomas Kaela (K10,000)

Referee of the year : Mathews Hamalila (15,000)
