Reconstruction of City Market to gobble $90m

The reconstruction of Lusaka City Market needs about $90 million.

The market which will have a new bus station as well as a mini hospital is expected to accommodate about 14000 traders.

Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale says the donations that were made towards the reconstruction of the market after it was destroyed by fire in 2017 only amounted to K1.7 million.

He says it is the same money which was diverted to top up on the construction of Simon Mwewa Market.

He says Simon Mwewa Market has also dragged due to lack of funds.

Meanwhile, Minister in the office of the Vice President Silvia Chilikosa has advised traders to stop demanding compensation as government did not commit to do so.
