RDAZ president Sampa suspended

The Health Professional Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has suspended the practicing license for the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia -RDAZ- President Brian Sampa for gross professional misconduct.

Meanwhile, the doctors have engaged in an industrial action over salaries, saying the government is not sincere in addressing their plight.

Sampa’s suspension is said to be is in line with the provisions of the Health Professions Act Number 24 of 2009, section 19(4).

HPCZ Registrar Bwembya Bwalya announced last evening that the Council took the decision to suspend Dr Sampa’s license for three months with immediate effect, pending investigations into his conduct as a medical doctor.

During the period of the suspension, Dr Sampa shall not perform any duties as a medical doctor.

He will also not participate in any activities related to his profession.

Bwalya has cautioned all health practitioners against breaching their professional code of ethics.

He said the Council would not hesitate to take appropriate action, including cancellation of the practicing license, against individual health practitioners who will be in found wanting in this regard.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration Emmanuel Ngulube has disclosed that Dr Sampa is also facing disciplinary action in Zambezi district. -znbc
