Radio Mano closure: Stop your Cadres from attacking the Media – Catholic

The Catholic Church has urged politicians to stop their cadres from attacking Journalists.

Reacting to the incidence at Radio Mano where the PF forced the closure of the operations at the station accusing it of being anti-PF, the Catholic Church says politicians should follow the right procedure of addressing their grievances.

The Church said this in a statement below made available to Zambian Eye:

Catholic Media Services of Zambia Episcopal Conference(CMS)wishes to correct some impression created by some online news outlets and radio stations that the Catholic Church has shut radio Mano for being anti PF.

It should be known from the onset that the Catholic Church through the Archdiocese of Kasama does not own Radio Mano and have no powers whatsoever in the operations and management of Radio Mano.

The public should however know that, the Catholic Church owns radio Lutanda which has just started test broadcasting in the same area of Kasama.

Meanwhile as we call for professional media in Zambia, Catholic Media Services does not condone threats and intimidation directed at Journalists and other media workers.

Also politicians and political parties should discourage their cadres from attacking media workers, if aggrieved by some media houses or individual journalists in the way they are reporting or doing some broadcasts, they should follow the right procedure of addressing suchobjections.

As Catholic media services these developments are worrisome for they border on threatening people’s lives which the Catholic Church value so much. We hope an amicable solution shall be met so that the community radio station may once again start broadcasting.
