Prominent lawyer condemns raid on HH’s house, calls Lungu ‘useless’

Canada-based lawyer Elias Munshya has slammed the Monday night raid on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s residence by heavily-armed police, calling it disproportionate and an abuse of power.

And Munshya has charged that if President Edgar Lungu cannot diffuse the political tension in the country, he is a useless President.

In a video recording, Munshya also says President Lungu must not act like a little boy in a school yard; bullying everyone to follow his agenda.

Police last night broke into HH’s home, cut off power supply and teargassed the place. They also beat up Mazabuka MP Garry Nkombo as he attempted to gain entry to the premised and some journalists who were capturing footage of the raid. They also reportedly “helped themselves” to foodstuffs and other items that could fit in their pockets.

The whereabouts of the UPND strongman are yet to be known but by press time, police where still keeping his residence under siege with his family held hostage.

Commenting on the state’s actions, Munshya observes that the opposition leader is throwing tantrums and it is within his right to do so but if he broke the law in Mongu, he must be treated in a proportionate manner.

He also advises the State to practice restraint in dealing with citizens and implores PF leaders to show leadership.
