Prof. Chirwa found with a case to answer

A Lusaka Magistrate Court on Monday found former Chief Executive Officer for Zambia Railways Professor Clive Chirwa with a case to answer, for failing to declare interest and abuse of authority of office.

This is in a case Professor Chirwa is being tried for allegedly having recommended that his company, Clavel Incorporated Limited be engaged to train key Zambia Railways Limited – ZRL staff.

Professor Chirwa is also alleged to have been paying 72-thousznd kwacha for his accommodation at Falls Way Apartments, which was above his monthly entitlement of 28-thousand housing.

Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation reports that in making a ruling Principal Resident Magistrate Obbister Musukwa says a prima facie case has been established in all the two counts.

Mr Musukwa has since set August 6, 2014 for the commencement of defence.

Prof Chirwa is jointly charged with Regina Mwale, the former Director of Finance at ZRL, where he was Chief Executive Officer.

Mrs. Mwale has promised to present two witnesses while Professor Chirwa will be the only witness in the two counts. / ZNBC
