As the in-fighting within the Patriotic Front government rags on, President Sata has fired Wynter Kabimba as Minister of Justice and Secretary General of the party.

President Sata has since appointed Defence Minister Edgar Lungu to take over as Minister of Justice and Secretary General.

This is contained in a statement issued by President Sata’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah.

Kabimba who is in Zambezi West campaigning for the PF candidate for the forthcoming by-elections was being accused as one of those wanting to take over from Michael Sata.

Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda last week revealed that a named Minister with a Newspaper was scheming to undo the people he sees as potential successors so he can assume the presidency before 2016 when Zambia is expected to have elections.

The fight for succession follows the poor health of President Sata who has not been seen in public for over two months.

Below is the statement issued by State House today, August 28, 2014.

LUSAKA, Thursday, August 28, 2014 – His Excellency, Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has with immediate effect revoked the appointment of Hon. Wynter Kabimba as Minister of Justice and party Secretary General.
