President Edgar Lungu has been hospitalised at Maina Soko Military Hospiital in Lusaka after he fell ill during the commemoration of International Women’s Day at Heroes National Stadium Sunday morning.

And President Lungu says he is looking forward to go home.

The Zambian Leader had to excuse himself from the Women’s Day celebrations and delegated his authority to Minister of Gender, Professor Nkandu Luo to take charge of the remainder of the women’s day parade.

President Lungu was taken to Maina Soko Military Hospital. His Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says doctors detected high levels of fatigue.

“After a snap test in the holding room, traces of malaria were detected. Due to this illness, President Lungu was forced to leave Heroes Stadium earlier than planned,” Chanda said in his update statement on the condition of the President, Sunday evening.

“Doctors at Maina Soko Military Hospital have since conducted comprehensive medical check-ups and observed that the President and the results are good.”

Chanda says President Lungu is being treated for malaria and fatigue and has been advised to take some rest.

“I am feeling much better and I have been told I have high levels of fatigue and should take some rest. There is nothing to worry about,” President Lungu earlier said on ZNBC which carried the Women’s Day celebrations live.

And President Lungu told reporters from Maina Soko Military Hospital that he is in the hands of the Doctors whom he says are doing a good job. President Lungu said he is looking forward to go home when Doctors discharge him.

Chanda explains that on Friday, March 6, 2015, President Lungu officiated at the launch of Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s re-launch of the book “Zambia Shall Be Free” from 19:00 hours to 23:20 hours and on Saturday, March 7, 2015, he chaired the PF Central Committee meeting from 09:00 hours to 18:00 hours and later met provincial officials and chiefs in the night.
