Police shoot one, arrest 2 at Kasenseli Gold Mine

Police in Mwinilunga District – North Western province have shot one person and arrested two others.

This is after over two hundred residents tried to force their way into Kasenseli Gold Mine premises.

The mob from nearby villages forced its way into the mine premises but was met by Police who fired rubber bullets to disperse them.

North Western province Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Mulenga says one person was shot in the foot with a rubber bullet while two are in Police custody following the incident.

Dr. Mulenga says the trespassers brought down the security fence but police who are manning the area managed to displace the mob.

Speaking to ZNBC News in a Telephone Interview, Dr. Mulenga said Police have launched a manhunt adding that those arrested have been charged with criminal trespass and malicious damage to property.

Meanwhile, he has urged those that have settled in surrounding areas of Kasenseli Gold Mine not to engage in illegal gold mining.

Dr. MULENGA further revealed that Police have intensified patrols in the nearby settlements of Kasenseli Gold Mine. Znbc
