Police detain 42 Youths demanding new constitution as HH rushes to the Police

42 youths taking part in today’s Youth Day celebrations have been picked by the Police in Lusaka for wearing T-Shirts with writings demanding for a new constitution, reports our Correspondent in Lusaka.

And Zambia’s main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema with his lawyers has rushed to Central Police station to seek for the release of the youths.

The Youths from Action Aid who were part of the Youths taking part in the match-past are detained at the Police station and by press time, they had not yet been charged.

Action Aid Country Head Pamela Chisanga has confirmed the arrest of the Youths to journalists in Lusaka.

Ms Chisanga said she was shocked that Police could detain innocent young Zambians for demanding a new constitution.

She said the youths from ActionAid were peacefully marching alongside their colleagues from other organisations when they were stopped and taken to Lusaka Central Police.

Ms Chisanga has since demanded for the immediate release of the 42 youths.

Action Aid is part of a consortium of civil society organizations demanding for the release of the new constitution.

The opposition parties have boycotted the commemorations in protest demanding for the enactment of a new constitution.
