Police issues update on missing ECZ vehicle
The Police in Southern Province has provided an update on the matter in which Monze Central Police Station is investigating a report of a missing motor vehicle that had been hired by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
According to police the report was received on October 15, 2025, at 17:40 hours, from Mushingwa Shydrink, aged 48, of Location Compound, Kasama District.
He reported that his driver, Prislay Mutelo Malambo, aged 40, of Monze, went missing together with a Mitsubishi Pajero, registration number ACL 3633, which had been assigned for official ECZ duties between Lusaka and Livingstone.

Brief facts of the matter are that on October 11, 2025, Mushingwa assigned his driver, Mr. Malambo, to travel from Lusaka to Livingstone on an Electoral Commission of Zambia assignment.
Along the way, the driver reported mechanical breakdowns in Mazabuka before losing contact with his employer, until he was later found unconscious in Monze.
As of October 16, 2025, Mr. Malambo remains admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Monze Mission Hospital and is unable to talk.
Medical personnel informed officers who visited him at 09:30 hours that he had ingested an unknown poisonous substance, for which treatment is ongoing.
His father, Mr. Fanwell Mutelo, aged 62, of Sibusu Village in Chief Monze’s area, confirmed that his son arrived in Monze on October 13, 2025, with the said vehicle, which had developed a mechanical fault after its timing belt snapped.
He stated that his son engaged mechanics who failed to repair it. Mr. Malambo reportedly spent the night of October 13, 2025, in the vehicle and, the following morning, left saying he was going to look for other mechanics but never returned.
Later, the father was informed that his son had been found unconscious.
The motor vehicle was later towed to Monze Police Station.
It has since been established that although the vehicle had been hired by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), it was not carrying any ECZ materials at the time it went missing.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
