Armed Zambia Police today blocked Socialist Party from holding their Copperbelt province rally in Kitwe.

And Socialist Party president Fred M’membe has started heading back to Lusaka and will meet party officials on the way.

Yesterday Dr M’membe had announced the rally would go ahead despite police decision to deny the party a permit. Police said they had no enough security for the rally.

Early today Armed Police Officers occupied the venue of the rally in Kwacha with their armed vehicles ready to face the Socialist Party members.

Dr. M’membe then announced to his members to stay away saying he would use the time to meet party officials for mobilisation purposes.

The meetings will take place between midnight and 03:00 hrs starting from Kitwe, Lwanshy, Ndola, Kapiri Mposhi, and Kabwe.

Dr. M’membe has accused President Hakainde Hichilema of being unprincipled as he was doing exactly opposed of what he says.

He says the Socialist Party will hold rallies at the appropriate time.

The Police last month blocked the opposition PF from holding a rally in Lusaka citing security concerns.
