PF’s Edgar Lungu takes early led in Zambia poll

Official Results from four of the fifty constituencies released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has put Edgar Lungu of the ruling Patriotic Front ahead of his main challenger Hakainde Hichilema of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND), reports Zambian Eye Political Correspondent in Lusaka.

An analysis of results from polling stations by Zambian Eye has shown a same voting pattern with Lungu still commanding strong support in the PF support base – Northern, Copperbelt, Lusaka, Luapula and Muchinga province. He is also performing well in Eastern province and has won in Kabwe, Central province.

Hichilema has however improved in his performance in PF stronghold as he is coming distant second among the 11 candidates contesting the elections. He is also winning with big margins in Western, Southern, Central and North Western provinces. Hichilema is also winning in some rural polling stations of the Copperbelt province.
