PF snubs HH peace offer, accuses him of wanting Government of National Unity

Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies  Chama has accused Opposition United Party for National Development Leader Haikande Hichilema of orchestrating a plan to bring chaos in the country with the aim of negotiating for government of national unity.

And Chama says President-elect Edgar Lungu can never meet the opposition leader as long as he is not sincere in calling for peace and unity, adding that he is doing it out of his personal selfish interests.

In a Press statement dated August 23, 2016 and obtained by Zambian Eye, Chama said Hichilema is calling for a meeting with Lungu so that the international community  can see him as a man willing to dialogue over post-election violence that has been reported in opposition strongholds.

“It  is necessary for us to our people what we have said in the past that UPND had been planning for chaos after the August 11th elections as part of a well calculated scheme to negotiate for a government of national unity. We think that even this call by Mr Hichilema to meet President Lungu is part of the attempt to start pushing for the same. Mr Hichilema should know that there shall be no government of national unity in Zambia, Our people spoke clearly on 11th August . President Edgar Chagwa Lungu won the Presidential Elections and we are just waiting for the constitutional court to rule on the election petition that UPND has filed,” Chama said in a statement.

“He thinks that by calling for a meeting with President Lungu the international community will view him as a man willing to dialogue over the post-election violence that has been reported in his strongholds. So Mr Hichilema is not sincere in his call to meet President Lungu.

“We wish to warn Mr Hichilema and his friends in UPND to  stop inciting violence because the law will catch up with them. We are aware of  their plans to extend their violence beyond the borders of their strong holds, including burning markets along the line of rail. They will not succeed.”
