PF General Conference to elect president on Saturday

The troubled governing Patriotic Front (PF) has announced that it will hold a General Convention on November 29, 2014 to elect a president of the party who shall also be the presidential candidate, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent.

But the pro-Edgar Lungu members of the Central Committee have called for another Central Committee meeting on Monday to look at the applications.

Interim Republican and Party President Guy Scott announced this on Sunday saying despite that some members of Central Committee boycotting the meeting in protest of the decision taken to suspend 16 members, the Central Committee meeting still went ahead.

Dr. Scott told Reporters after the Central Committee that the over 5000 delegates will this coming Friday meet at Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe to elect the party leader.

Squabbles have rocked the ruling PF over succession to late president Michael Sata. 10 candidates have applied for the top party job.

The pro-Edgar Lungu members of the Central Committee who have been suspended from the party have called for another Central Committee meeting on Monday after Dr. Scott refused to reconcile with them.

The members who gathered at State House said Dr. Guy Scott does not mean well for PF. They said Dr. Scott remains suspended adding that any meeting chaired by him will be illegal.

Inonge Wina who was National Chairperson before being suspended said the Central Committee members have now directed Interim General Secretary Bridget Attanga to present the names of the applicants at a Monday meeting.
