The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) will not take part in the Mfinshe Ward By-election in Malole Constituency, Mungwi District of Northern Province as its candidate Joseph Mulenga was involved in an accident and failed to file in his nomination papers, the party has confirmed.

PF media director Sunday Chanda explained in a statement that Mulenga had left behind some of the documents required by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) but was involved in a road traffic on his way back from collecting the documents.

Chanda says as a result, Mulenga was unable to beat the ECZ’s stipulated deadline for filling in nomination papers.

“Contrary to information circulating on Social media, the Patriotic Front candidate for Mfinshe Ward By-election in Malole Constituency, Mungwi District of Northern Province was unable to file in his nomination papers today, 14th March 2019,” said Chanda.

“The PF candidate had left behind some of the documents required by Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

“It was at this point that he left for the Boma Offices to collect the remaining documents.

“Unfortunately he got involved in a road traffic accident on his way back. Due to this unforeseen situation, he was unable to beat the ECZ’s stipulated deadline for filling in.”

Meanwhile, two candidates successfully filed in nominations for the Mfinshe ward by-election.

Returning officer Gaston Phiri declared the duo as Bruno Mubanga of the United party for National Development (UPND) and Ignatius Mutale from the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD).
