PF cadres threaten to confront UPND MPs inside Parliament

In an unprecedented sequence of events, cadres from the governing Patriotic Front (PF) have threatened to confront Members of Parliament from opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) inside the House, reports Zambian Eye Lusaka based Correspondent.

PF Lusaka Province Youth Chairman Kennedy Kamba sounded the warning in Lusaka on Monday ahead of Parliament on Tuesday March 4 when the issue of constitution is expected to be resolved after disruption of business last week.

Kamba has warned that he will unleash the cadres inside Parliament to deal with UPND and MMD MPs if they continue to disrupt Parliament proceedings.

“We are going to confront the UPND MPs inside there (Parliament) if they continue with their conduct of disrupting business in the House,” warned Kamba.

Kamba wondered why the Police had not moved on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for urging MPs to continue disrupting business in the House demanding for the release of the draft constitution.

“HH is proposing violence, I don’t know what the police are doing,” Kamba said.

The PF Youth Chairperson said the ruling party will not sit and watch UPND bring lawlessness in the country. He said what HH said, was unacceptable.

But UPND Deputy Spokesperson Colnerious Mweetwa who is also Choma Central MP says his party would not waste time to respond to hired cadres. He said Kamba is hired and sent to say whatever he says by PF leaders.

Mweetwa said the UPND will respond to PF leaders and not cadres. He said if Kamba wants to send cadres to Parliament the MPs will meet them.

“He should also remember that it is not only PF that has cadres, in fact the 2011 elections showed that the opposition has more cadres than PF,” warned Mweetwa.

On Sunday, at a media briefing addressed by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema (HH), Mweetwa said the MPs are resolved to continue with their protest in the House. He said the MPs are ready to bear the consequences that could include suspension, loosing seats through dissolution.
