Cadres from ruling Patriotic Front (PF) on Friday de-campaigned their Councilor Christopher, the son to Katuba constituency Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa.

And President Michael Sata’s Son, Mulenga is the new Mayor of Lusaka after going unopposed during elections at Civic Centre in the Zambian capital.

The cadres who witnessed the elections of Mayor and his Deputy intimidated delegates against voting for Christopher who is the PF Councilor and was vying for the Deputy Mayor position. The cadres threatened the Councilors that if Christopher won they would not be allowed to leave the Hall.

They accused Christopher of being a sympathizer of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) where his father is a Member of Parliament.

The situation was tense and cadres were heard shouting that Christopher is not PF and should not be voted for. At some point the outgoing Mayor Daniel Chisenga had to intervene to calm the situation.

The Deputy Mayor position was contested by three candidates and was scoped by Potipher Tembo a Concilor for Chawama Ward two polling 17 votes followed by Chikuntano Nkhoma  with 12 votes and Christopher took the third position third with 10 votes.

Reacting to comments by Cadres, Christopher said it is unfortunate that he is being accused of being UPND just because of his father. He said he is a committed member of the PF.

Christopher explained that he joined the PF long time when his father was still Deputy Minister of Finance under President Mwaanawasa administration. He said he has since remained a committed member and even campaigned for the PF candidate in Katuba who stood against his father during a by-election.

Speaking after the results were announced, Mulenga Sata who is also PF Lusaka district Chairman called for discipline among party members saying members of the public will judge them according to their conduct. He thanked PF members for the support they continue to show to him.

Mulenga also went unopposed during the elections for the position of Lusaka District Chairman.

Insiders say, he is being prepared for the PF presidency.
