Suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadres on Wednesday attacked UDF leader Miles Sampa and senior UPND member Major Richard Kachingwe as they were conducting their campaigns in Nakonde.

Posting on his Facebook page, Sampa said the assailants were clad in PF regalia and were armed with stones and other offensive weapons.

The former Matero parliamentarian said the cadres threatened their lives for not supporting the ruling party and President Edgar Lungu and that they went on to smash the windscreen of the vehicle they were using.

“Yesterday Major Kachingwe and I were ambushed by EL militias who trailed us and set up a road block ahead of us as we drove out of Nakonde from our village to village campaigns. The militias were clad in PF regalia and equipped with hand held rocks and other dangerous objects as they surrounded our car,” Sampa posted on his Facebook page.

“They issued threats on our lives for not supporting EL and went on to smash the rear windscreen with heavy rocks. Unfortunately this was in full view of other motorists behind us and in particular cross border foreign transporters.

“Nakonde has become a full blown militia centre. I left the crime scene fearing for mother Zambia and what will happen between now and post elections as it seems power to some means everything and is by any means necessary.

“We did not bother filing in a police report seeing our police force is toothless and filing in reports has become purely academic.”
