The ruling Patriotic Front has backtracked on its initial position of supporting Christopher Shakafuswa for the position of Lusaka Deputy Mayor. The Lusaka City Council will hold deputy mayoral election on Monday September 26, 2016.

The PF has recommended a new candidate, a not so well known Chilando Chitangala, a councillor for Roma Ward 17 of Mandevu constituency.

Earlier there was tension within the PF over the Deputy mayor candidate as President Edgar Lungu and elected Nkoloma ward Councillor Tasila Lungu announced that she will run against Shakafuswa disregarding the party official position.

PF Secretary General  Davies Mwila who earlier threatened anyone who goes against the party position on Lusaka Deputy mayor with expulsion has however eaten a humble pie as he wrote a statement backtracking his earlier position.

In a statement  made available to Zambian Eye, Mwila said the party has seen the recent developments regarding the issue on the Deputy Mayor of  Lusaka and  made subsequent consultations.

He said  the issue  has generated a lot of interest and further announced that the PF official recommended candidate for the position of Deputy Mayor for Lusaka is Councillor Chilando Chitangala.

“She is councillor for Roma Ward 17 of Mandevu constituency. The candidature of Councillor Chitangala has been welcomed and endorsed by all PF Lusaka district Councillors including Councillors Christopher Shakafuswa and Tasila Lungu,” Mwila said.

“It is our trust and confidence that Ms Chitangala will receive full support from all Councillors as she endeavours to provide leadership as Deputy Mayor after elections slated for Monday 26th September ” he said.

  7. The best pf party would have done was to allow democracy to take its course by allowing all those who had the intentions of contesting the lusaka deputy mayor to exercise there rights as oposed to what is happening now where even the pf SG is proving not to have a clear direction for people to follow and is imposing candidates on pf cancillors to support ,this is pure dictatorship and consequently we the people who are in dire need of good services such as clean water, good sanitation ,clean environment and better roads in most compounds just to mention afew ,these challenges requires technocrants to deal with them but as things are anfolding in pf now due to power truggle between pf versus pf for reasons best known by themselves we the people will suffer more and we are likely not to access these services because the possibility of settling for a wrong and incompetent deputy mayor is very high as such who suffers its we the people.

  8. Pf are taking the issue of lusaka deputy mayor as if the position will only deriver their expectations at party level thats why they are pondering in their decision making and thinks they will continue politicking on expense of the most needed service deliverly to the people who voted for them because the electorates are very expectant and they cannot wait to start seeing fruits of their voting.Lusaka is one of the most filthy capital cities as compared to our neighbouring countries such as South Africa,Botswana,Namibia ,Zimbabwe and many other neighbours in these countries they have technocrants who spearheads the service deliverly to the people why can’t we do the same and this can only be attained if we put competent people in these public offices.

  9. Ok but I wanted Tasila Lungu, Christopher Shakafuswa and all other interested councillors to contest the election instead of allowing one person to sonta. Thats democracy. By the way, are we doing the same thing in Dundumwezi and other cities and towns. Has SG sontad also? PF member.

  10. Lusaka’s growth should be regulated. Everybody from all parts of the country is migrating to Lusaka. The local Lenjes and Solis ar now being displaced from their villages by cadres who are now being given plots by the PF. It is worse than what the Jews are doing to the Palestinians. There is need to relocate the Capital to another town like Mkushi or Serenje.

  11. Nothing can be expected from this illegal and tribal pf govt. These bemba idiots have mp respect for other tribes apart from their fellow rats from the east. No wonder they do not speak other local languages other than theirs. The permanent solution here is secession.

  13. Just observing as always, does it mean the suspension of C.Banda by HH also i quote “PF is always full of uncertainty and that is why this part has most of its member who behave like militia groups”.
The remarks from most of the bloggers is always negative, even in full blown democracy nations that does not prevail.
Now the true colours of tribalism has started to show, with the latest been the suspension of Banda.
The lost sheep in the likes of Guy Scott have hibernated now that they know that there is no light at the end of the tunnel for UPND.
Come 2021 we will if not rally behind Edith Nawakwi’s or Elias Chipimo Jnr’s party….. so that you will be heart broken and blame us for been tribalists which we are not?
I know someone won’t waste time to pass derogatory remarks immediately my comments pops up…….
