OYDC set to be hive of activity
Hundreds of Lusaka residents will this weekend throng OYDC where different exciting sport activities will take place.
All is set for this weekend’s Zambia Weightlifting Federation under 20 ‘Champion of Champions’ Weight Lifting tournaments at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka with the support of Shoprite.
Ackim Simfukwe, a Coach at the Centre says four teams will compete during the tourney scheduled to start at 10:00 hrs. Outstanding athletes will be awarded with certificates after the competition which is expected to end at 15:00 hours.
Simfukwe adds that the tournament will mark the end of the under-20 Weight Lifting tournaments for the year, 2015.
”This Saturday, we are proud to host four teams during the Champion of Champions weight lifting tournament to be held at OYDC. The preparations are going on well and outstanding athletes will be rewarded with certificates. We urge people to turn out in numbers to support us because the tournament will mark the end of the 2015 tourney” Simfukwe said.
Chambeshi, Kitwe, Mufulira, and Luanshya are among the teams that will be taking part during the tournament.
Meanwhile, preparations for the under 14 Athletics Youth Challenge at the Olympic Youth Development Centre this Saturday 5th December, 2015 are progressing well.
Over 100 athletes selected from 10 teams from Schools and Community Clubs surrounding OYDC will compete.
Sydney Mushipi, a coach at OYDC says the best three teams will be honoured adding that the athletics unit values the competition.
“We will be having the under14 athletics challenge this weekend 5 December, 2015. We are expecting a total number of 10 teams with a total number of 100 athletes in the competition supported by Phoenix Assurance Limited” he said.
Furthermore, the Centre host the second edition of Duathlon with over 60 athletes participating.
The Centre in August, 2015 hosted the first edition of Duathlon which received overwhelming response from different stakeholders.
And netball enthusiasts will on the same date be entertained with the Sri-Lanka Association Community Netball Challenge league.
10 teams will battle it out as they edge closer to the grand finale to be played later this month.
