More than 500 disadvantaged and orphaned children in the country had the opportunity to take part in the Children’s Flight conducted by the Zambian Defense Forces recently.

This is the first ever event of that kind in the country.

President Hakainde Hichilema thanked the country’s uniformed forces for the event and for giving disadvantaged children to have a view of the country from the skies.

“Our brave men & women in uniform do more than protect our country, they also inspire our people.

“Today, over 500 disadvantaged & orphaned children from across Zambia were given chance to see our country from the sky at inaugural “Children’s Flight”. A special experience indeed.”

Founded by commercial pilot Felix Gosher, the Children’s Flight initiative began in 2016 at Grand Central Airport, Midrand, South Africa with the aim of giving underprivileged children the unique opportunity to fly with the pilots of community and beyond.

The Zambian event was organized for 2nd May, 2020, at KKIA at Zambezi Hangars, and already has massive support pledged from the aviation community, including the ZCAA, ZAF, ZACL, GATCOZ, private aircraft owners and commercial operators, and the Zambian business community as a whole.

However, it was postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The event is pure charity – all aircraft, fuel, services, shirts, caps, food, beverages, and entertainment are donated by the event’s supporters.

Beneficiary children are selected from below the poverty index, the really poor, the disabled, the abused and the abandoned.
