A team of prominent Lawyers representing Dora Siliya, Hastings Sililo and Maxwell Mwale has filed an injunction stopping the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) from going ahead with the nominations on August 23.
The trio wants to seek judicial review after the ECZ announced that it will not receive their nominations following the Judiciary’s statement stating that they should not be allowed to re-contest their nullified seats.
The Lawyers who are said to have worked overnight on Saturday to prepare an Injection document and legal augments includes Sakwiba Sikota, Sunday Nkonde and Eric Silwamba. Others in the team are Jack Mwiimbu, Ireen Kunda and Martha Mushipe. Keith Mweemba, a Mr. Jalasi and Martha Mushipe are also in the team.
Actually an insider told Zambian Eye that the team comprises of not less than 20 lawyers who have been assembled to fight the injustice being advanced by the PF government.
Everything possible is being done with a clear view that we are dealing with a judicial system that is being politically abused by powers that be, an insider told Zambian Eye Sunday evening.
The legal team is said to be doing everything to ensure that the justice prevails and the three former Members of Parliament who are viewed as strong candidates by the PF contest the by-elections.
Former Petauke Member of Parliament Dora Siliya and Former Malambo MP Maxwel Mwale were seen arround Mellenium Village that hosts Mushipe Associates Law Firm to sign and collect letters and documents while Mulobezi’s Hastings Sililo was still being awaited.
It seems certain that the nominations that were postponed on August 9 may not take place on Tuesday August 13 again pending a hearing.
