Over 100 Matero tenants face eviction

Over one hundred and fifty Parastatal Tenants of Matero Constituency in Lusaka face eviction from their housing units.

Former Zambia Cooperative Federation Limited (ZCF), Zambia Institute of Management (ZAMIM), Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) ZamCapital Enterprises Limited (ZAMCAPITAL) and Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPID) housing units sitting tenants have since petitioned republican President Michael Sata through area Member of Parliament Miles Sampa to seek intervention and enforce their rights as sitting tenants of the housing units.

Spokesperson of the affected tenants Kenneth Nkhoma explains that ZCF sitting tenants who were offered to purchase the houses as sitting tenants in 1999 which they paid for but that to date they have not been issued with title deeds.

Mr Nkhoma notes with sadness the failure to issue them with title deeds to the obligation of the seller to avail the title deeds within twelve months of conclusion of payment as specified in the signed sales contracts.

The tenants have since accused ministry of works and supply officers of having already evicted some of their colleagues illegally sharing the housing units amongst themselves.

And receiving the petition, area Member of Parliament Miles Sampa assured the petitioners that he will delivering their humble request to President Michael Sata so that he can look into their plight.

Mr Sampa says the president would not be happy to see the citizenry who voted for him suffer for the benefit of others.
