Over 100 farmers arrested in Kalomo

A 63 year old farmer was one of those arrested

Police in Kalomo today, Friday fired teargas canisters and arrested over 100 farmers who were protesting and demanding to be paid back their money they deposited into the E-voucher system.


The farmers blocked the busy Lusaka, Livingstone road at the Agriculture offices demanding for their money. This caused traffic jam prompting armed police officers to fire teargas canisters and arrested some farmers.


The incensed farmers said the E voucher system has failed as money has not been deposited in their E voucher accounts for more than 2 years.


The farmers demanded that their accounts be deposited with money not later than today.


By press time Police had not confirmed on whether the farmers had been formally charged.
