Our 90 days promise was made without data – Kabimba

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba on Friday confessed that his party’s promise to deliver a new constitution in 90 days was done without knowing how MMD had mismanaged the resources, reports our correspondent in Lusaka.

Kabimba who is also the governing Patriotic Front General Secretary said this during the debate of the private members motion moved by opposition UPND Member of Parliament for Mazabuka Garry Nkombo.

The motion that was moved Friday, March 7, 2014 intended to urge government to set up a roadmap on the enactment of the new constitution now that the work by the Technical Committee had been completed.

Debating the motion, Kabimba said the PF the promise to deliver a constitution in 90 days was made out of knowledge as to the levels of corruption and mismanagement of the affairs of the state by the MMD government.

Kabimba said the PF as party voted by the poor would not prioritize the constitution making process at the expense of uplifting the lives of the majority poor Zambians. He said many poor Zambians had lost hope that their lives would be improved under during the MMD regime.

He said people thought their lives would only be redeemed when Jesus comes because only a few elite were benefiting during the previous regimes. He said this was the reason the PF was formed saying it was a party for the poor.

Kabimba said the PF has instead put priority to uplifting the lives of the poor by improving healthcare, education, roads to open up areas to investments for job creation and generally eradicate poverty.

“We have managed to redeem the lives of our people who had lost hope and only thought only Jesus would redeem them,” Kabimba said.

The Justice Minister however said the PF government is still committed to delivering the constitution. He said the President had said that after receiving the draft constitution he would consult on how to progress.

Kabimba said the Technical Committee were ready to handover the draft constitution as he stated last week saying the process had been derailed by the protesting opposition MPs.
