The Opposition Alliance consisting of about 12 political parties says it intends to field one candidate in the forthcoming Katuba parliamentary by-election in central province reports Lukundo Nankamba of Phoenix FM.

The Katuba seat fell vacant after the death of opposition UPND area Member of Parliament Patricia Mwashingwele.

NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili who confirmed the development to Phoenix News said leaders of the alliance are set to have a meeting where a decision will be finalized next week.

Meanwhile, the Opposition United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) through its Spokesperson, Francis Kope has confirmed that it will be participating in the Katuba by-election further saying selection of a suitable candidate is underway.

And Non-Governmental Gender Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Executive Director Engwase Mwale has called on political parties to adopt women in the upcoming by election and further encouraged women to apply for adoption.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has since set 30th July, 2019 as date for the katuba parliamentary by-election.
