Oops! ZESCO responds to social media joke

Power utility company ZESCO has turned itself into a laughing stock after it released an official statement refuting a viral social media joke about three-day countrywide power outage from February 29 to 31, 2019.

Apparently, everyone got the joke (as the month of February only has 28 days this year) except ZESCO, who promptly issued a statement advising members of the public to “ignore the statement making rounds on social media”.

“This serves to inform ZESCO customers and the general public to ignore¬†the statement making rounds on social media that there will be a three (03) day in Zambia in February 2019,” reads the statement issued by ZESCO public relations manager Hazel Zulu. “There are no scheduled maintenance works on the generators at any of the hydro power stations that warrants such a shutdown. It is a false statement meant to bring the corporation into disrepute.

“ZESCO Ltd urges its customers and the general public to remain calm.”
