Oasis Forum writes parley over constitution bill

The Oasis Forum, a consortium of civil society organisation and church mother bodies has maintained that it will go ahead and present a private member’s bill that will seek to protect the constitution making process.

Oasis Forum Spokesperson Cleophas Lungu said the forum has since written to parliament over its planned to table the private member bill.

Fr. Lungu said the decision has been taken after the failure by government to give a clear road map to protect the constitution making process.

He claimed that parliament has also responded to them and that they are currently discussing over the concerns raised.

Fr. Lungu who is also Zambia Episcopal Conference General Secretary, said on Monday August 26, 2013 that it has also identified some Members of Parliament who will help in tabling the bill in parliament.

He said the bill is expected to be presented in the next sitting of parliament.

The country is currently undertaking a constitution making process which started in November 2011.

The committee task to draft the costittution making process is expected to hand over the complete draft constitution to the President by the end of this year but stakeholders have raised concerns over lack of road map.
