What was to be a Grand opening of Lusaka’s new architectural wonder – The National Heroes Stadium – turned out to be a dud as the official Guest of Honour failed to show up. The event slated for 25th May 2014 coinciding with Africa Freedom Day, was supposed to be opened by Republican President Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata but wasn’t . The Minister of Sport Chishimba Kambwili who was officiating told Journalists a few days ago that the President would officially open the stadium. No explanation was given for the absence of the President, though he was seen at the Freedom Statue laying wreaths in honour of Zambia’s fallen Heroes.

The festive atmosphere which included entertainment by cultural groups quickly turned into impatience and frustration as the anticipation waned. Present were also cabinet ministers and invited guests from all walks of life as well as the sports fraternity.NHS
