No deputy ministers – PF

Ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Mwila has announced that the party opposes the reintroduction of the position of deputy minister as proposed by the National Dialogue Forum (NDF).

Mwila also said the party opposed the proposal that civil servants be required to resign two years before joining active politics.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Kitwe on Sunday, July 14, Mwila revealed that the party had certain reservations on the recommendations made to amend the Constitution made by NDF.

“As a party we have rejected and opposed the move to return deputy ministers and has also suggested a six months period for civil servants to resign before joining active politics,” Mwila said.

And PF Deputy Media Director Anthonio Mwanza said the Party has okayed the Mixed Member Proportional Representation to ensure the inclusion of youths, women and the disabled. 

“We agree that the time for a Presidential Petition must be increased from 14 days to 30 Calendar Days. We agree that Mayors and Council Chairpersons must be elected from among the councillors to save unnecessary costly elections since these officers enjoy no special executive powers; these positions are ceremonial,” Mwanza said.
