Nkana seal Champions League spot as Green Eagles make history

Nkana Football Club have confirmed participation in the 2019 CAF Champions League after securing second spot in the MTN/FAZ Super League with a 4-0 thrashing of Lusaka Dynamos at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday.

The win saw the Red Devils end the season on 76 points, four behind champions Zesco United, who lost 1-0 at Green Eagles on Saturday.

Bestone Chambeshi’s charges where in a two-horse race with Green Buffaloes who won 3-0 away to Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy on Saturday to finish third on the log.

Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba netted a first half brace before Idris Mbombo and Walter Bwalya contributed a goal each in this round 38 match.

Kampamba scored in the 2nd and 23rd minutes while Mbombo netted in the 61st minute before Bwalya, who replaced Kelvin Mubanga, put the icing on the cake on 84 minutes.

Meanwhile, Green Eagles will for the first time in their history play continental football after they beat champions Zesco United 1-0 to fourth on the league table and secure a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup alongside Green Buffaloes.

The Choma-based side defied the odds all season to finish ahead of Seasoned campaigners Zanaco, whose disappointing 2018 league campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat away to Nkwazi.
