The Lusaka Magestrate Court has slapped a three months jail sentence on MMD faction leader Nevers Mumba after finding him guilty of giving false information to a public officer at ZNBC.

Dr Mumba allegedly told an officer manning the gate at ZNBC that he had an appointment with the editor when in fact not.

In passing judgment, Lusaka magistrate David Simusamba said: “I have heard with deep concern from the defence team of Mr Mumba.

“It is my view that the convict being the former Republican Vice President and the public figure should have avoided that.

“I therefore send the convict to prison for three months from today and the appeal can be made within 14 days.”

Magistrate Simusamba has however acquitted Dr Mumba of criminal tresspass at ZNBC.

Dr Mumba was arrested in the aftermath of the August 11, 2016 elections after he stormed ZNBC to protest a story aired by the public broadcaster over the presidential election petition.
