A member of the Felix Mutati-led MMD faction has hit out at leader of a rival faction, Nevers Mumba, accusing him of betraying his calling by joining politics.
Reacting to recent media reports that Dr Mumba had personally gone with some youths to report him to the police for defamation, Chilufya Chishala says Dr Mumba is a typical “confusionist” who was embarrassed after his night time schemes to secretly meet the Republican President were unearthed.
Chishala who is the Chairperson for Agriculture in the Mutati-led executive was last week reported to the police for defamation after he alleged that Dr. Mumba was secretly making overtures to meet Republican President Edgar Lungu to discuss MMD related matters for fear of losing the case to Felix Mutati.
But Chishala on Thursday said Dr Mumba had not only betrayed his calling but that as a true Christian, his former party president should realise that it is not too late to return to the pulpit.
“Its not too late for Dr Mumba to go back and reconcile with God because even the Bible says that God likes sinners than hypocrites.
“Dr Mumba wanted to translate God’s blessings as a televangelist into politics and it doesn’t work like that. It is high time that people appreciated what God has given them. Dr Mumba was blessed with preaching the gospel and not to be a politician let him understand and appreciate that and it is not too late for him to go back to the pulpit and reconcile with God. He still has a chance to become his Apostle,” he said.
Chishala continued his onslaught on his former president by advising that MMD has a defined way of doing things which cannot be changed by an individual.
“We just want to advise Dr Mumba to understand that MMD is an institution which can not be auctioned or transformed into a ministry where an individual can claim ownership.
“MMD is a movement with a defined process of choosing its leadership and this process will continue, leaders will come and go, even Felix Mutati who is a current leader for MMD will have be subjected to an election at the convention next year in April and after that the party will decide on how they will approach the 2021 elections,” he said.
And Chishala outlined what he termed as a long list of betrayals which he said was a clear definition of whom his former president had become.
“Dr Mumba has a history of deceit as can be noted from a long list of betrayals of his close associates. He formed the Christian Coalition to contest elections but lying under that disguise that it was not a political party while wanting to use his televangelism popularity, which he later did and lost miserably. He was made Vice President after being made the spokesperson of opposition parties who were challenging the election of Mwanawasa but betrayed his colleagues as he used the position to negotiate for a job as Veep but started behaving like he was the President when he was left to act in the absence of President Levy Mwanawasa and was fired.”
Chishala likened Nevers Mumba’s behaviour to that of the woman in the Bible during King Solomon’s rein who wanted to have the baby cut in half because she knew the baby was not hers.
He also said as a man of God Dr Mumba should have under normal circumstances been in the forefront in bringing peace as opposed to being the funder of confusion and disputes.
He appealed to the Court to apply the wisdom of King Solomon in the Bible when he resolved the matter of whom the true mother of the child was when two women claimed ownership.
“At this moment Nevers Mumba as a man of God he should not be part of the confusion because even in the ceremony at the mountain of Jesus “Only peace makers shall be called children of God” Nevers Mumba as a preacher and as an Evangelist, a man of God wants to always be in the centre of disputes and arguments. He is behaving like the woman in the bible during King Solomon’s rein who was claiming another woman’s child that wasn’t hers. As King Solomon presided over those two women who were fighting for one baby, King Solomon said okey since you are fighting over one child why can’t we split it into two, the owner of the baby cried saying there is no need killing this child give it to her, why can’t Dr Mumba show the Zambian people that he is a true christian. Why is it him who is at the centre of fights and he prefers that the party be split even when he knows that no one will follow him. The court as well should apply the wisdom of King Solomon,” he said.
And commenting on the matter that comes up for continuation on 26th March, 2019 were Mutati and three others will commence their defence, Chishala said Dr Mumba was not in court for justice but for vengeance against the people he considers to have convened the convention.
“Dr Mumba is not in court for justice or as he claims to salvage the party but for vengeance against the people who he thinks grabbed the party from him. His targets are Rupiah Banda and Raphael Nakacinda.”
