Negative comments on economy, governance hurting the Zambian brand – Siliya

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dora Siliya says Zambians should desist from criticising the country’s current economic crisis in public saying it is damaging the Zambian brand on the international stage.

She says the country’s image is not looking good in the family nations, adding that whenever one searches the name Zambia on the internet, they are likely going to come across something negative.

Speaking on Smart Eagles’ “Round Table Talk”, Siliya, who is also Chief Government spokesperson, said;

“Negative messages about the country’s economy and governance were hurting the country’s standing on the international scene and ultimately affecting ordinary citizens.

“So, when someone Googles Zambia today, what will they have found out? I agree with Felix Mutati who recently said let us stop making noise about the economy because it harms the country’s image.”

Meanwhile, Zambia is usually in the news for wrong reasons, at one time youths had to protest from the bush for fear of being persecuted for demanding good governance and an end to corruption.

Few days ago the country found itself in the news after it failed to pay its debts, with far reaching implications which include being black listed.

Going forward the country will now need to pay up front for imports.
