NDC appeal process mired in confusion

The move by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to appeal it’s de-registration has been thrown into confusion after the Ministry of Home Affairs received two letters of appeal from two camps.

NDC leader Chishimba Kambwili and Mwenya Musenge, who claims to be the party secretary general, have both appealed against the de-registration of the party before Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo.

But Home affairs public relations officer Nephas Chifuta says the documents of the party before the ministry belong to Musenge.

However NDC vice-president Joseph Akafumba says it will be unfortunate for the Ministry of Home Affairs recognise Musenge.

Political researcher Cephas Mukuka says Kambwili’s appeal against the de-registration of the NDC must be supported as it demonstrates the right to rule of law.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr Mukuka says Kambwili has the right to be heard and that he should not keep quiet if his appeal is not handled within the law.

Dr Mukuka says Kambwili’s fight should not be his alone but a fight for all opposition political parties and other civil society organisations to see to it that Zambia upholds the rule of law.
