The government-instituted National Dialogue Forum has been officially opened by President Edgar Lungu today.

And President Edgar Lungu has called for seriousness and commitment from participants in the NDF as they deliberate on behalf of Zambia Citizens.

President Lungu, who officially opened the NDF at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka said the dialogue on the draft constitution is very important and that the forum must do a quality job and give Zambians a good Constitution.

“At this meeting stakeholders who included some of you delegates made submissions on the draft constitution and governance related legislation. This forum has therefore been constituted to validate the draft constitution before it can be introduced in Parliament,” he said.

And speaking earlier Justice Minister Given Lubinda said he is elated that 16 UPND MPs had done accreditation process for them to attend the NDF.

Meanwhile, Lubinda reported to the NDF that two representatives from church mother bodies were present, however he did not mention which ones are attending. Earlier this month that church mother bodies issued a joint statement saying they can not be part of the NDF as it does not have cleared terms and conditions.

And NDF chairperson Prof Muyunda Mwalushi announced that the Forum will adjourn and will only convene on Friday April 26, 2019, in order to keep participants up to speed with the bulky material in form of notes and pamphlets as provided for by the NDF.

The forum, that has been shunned by major opposition parties, civil society organizations and the three church mother bodies, is expected to sit for 10 days.

  1. Exercise in futility. ECL does not want to leave a good legacy for himself. Everything he does is in shumbles but uses Government powers to bulldoze his way.
