Elias Chipimo’s NAREP has vowed to stand in solidarity with leader of the main opposition Hakainde Hichilema who faces arrest.

Hichilema who heads the biggest opposition party in Zambia, UPND is being accused of having incited residents to riot on the Copperbelt province when he said ZAFFICO had been sold to Chinese.

Hakainde Hichilema

The Police has since summoned Hichilema commonly referred to as HH to appear before it on November 14, 2018 in Ndola.

But HH has refused ever inciting anyone to riot saying people know what is happening in country where he says the PF has failed.

And NAREP has announced that it will stand in solidarity with HH.

In statement below the opposition party says the ruling party is using the police to harass those offering divergent views:

Over the years,we have experienced the use of state aparatus in intimidating and dismantling the opposition by those whose hands were on the levers of power. In 2001,Zambia police summoned top opposition leaders to answer to the charges of defaming President FTJ by calling him a thief.

Comrade Dean Mung’omba leader of Zambia Alliance for Progress (ZAP),UNIP top leaders,Comrade Micheal Sata and Anderson Mazoka have all on numberless occasions being summoned during their time in the opposition ranks.Comrade Anderson Mazoka was summoned on one occasion for questioning over the harassment of deputy defence minister then, by people suspected to be UPND cadres in Mkushi.

The above user-friendly painting gives us an understanding, surrounding the frequent police summons on HH who is the leader of the biggest opposition at the moment. As NAREP youths,we refuse to believe that the summoning of HH is devoid of political influence. We highly believe that it is highly political and it’s meant to intimidate and choke the opposition as they mobilize for 2021.

It is sad that the institutions that are meant to protect Zambians are now being used to force the opposition into submission and great discomfort. We feel, such acts have potential to disturb our peace and sound political order. Please note that NAREP does not support, the issuing of alarming statements by opposition leaders but we highly feel that this issue has been highly mishandled to settle political scores.

We appeal to the Republican President not to go ahead on this avenue for the sake of our country. The recent action is highly going to negate the efforts so far made in the reconciliation process and this may affect the 2021 elections in a negative way.We advise the government to place it’s focus on making this country better as opposed to bending the moral will of the state to fight those with opposing views.

We appeal to the UPND to be level-headed in this time of difficulty and not use this opportunity to cause bedlam in the country.Zambia is the only country that God has given us,we cannot afford to experiment with our peace. While efforts are being made to resolve this political matter,it will be wise not to incite youths to cause bedlam as a result of this police summon.
