Namwala’s Maala community “cut off”

The Maala Community in Namwala district, Southern Province is at the verge of being cut off because of the flooding due to excessive rains being experienced in the district.

Public Relations Officer Nchimunya Lukubi says on Monday, 23rd January, 2023, an entourage from Namwala Town Council which comprised the Chairperson, Cllr Abel Moonga, the Council Secretary, Phillemon Nyirenda, District Planning Officer, Chiiya Miyoba, Deputy Director Works, Obby Nchepeshi and Deputy Treasurer, Oris Simukombo visited the flooded points to carry out an assessment of the affected points.

Lukubi says the team from Namwala Town Council was joined by a team from the Roads Development Agency (RDA) Choma Reginal Office lead by Eng. Thomas Lubinda.

However, RDA is expected to mobilise to site today, 24th January, 2023 to start works on the affected areas.

He says the two teams also proceeded to visit Mbeza Community of Mbeza Ward within Namwala which is also at the risk of total flooding should the rains persist.

Namwala district has been cited in the bulletin of 21st January, 2023 as one of the districts at the risk of flooding by the Department of Meteorology under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment.
