Rahpeal Nakacinda has dragged local privately-owned Prime Television and its staffer Kalani Muchima to court for calling him a thief.

According to a writ of Summons, Nakacinda has sued Prime TV managing director Akakulubelwa Akaku, Prime TV proprietor Gerald Shawa and Muchima for libel and slander.

Nakacinda, who is National Secretary of the Felix Mutati-led MMD faction, is demanding for an apology and damages that the court may deem fit for the mental strain caused by the defendants among other demands.

Further, Nakacinda in a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Wednesday, is demanding for an order of injunction restraining the defendants from publishing the said defamatory words.

On April 2, 2018, Muchima during a paid live television program called ‘Oxygen of Democracy’ which he hosts accused Nakacinda of being a convicted criminal.

Muchima played a video in which a Kabwe woman named Martha Mumba alleged that Nakacinda had failed to deliver a lorry despite getting K47,000 from her to purchase the vehicle.

Dispite Nakacinda’s protestion and saying it was unfair to be grilled on a matter which he was not informed about before coming to the programme, Muchima insisted on his line of questioning and outrightly called Nakacinda a thief.

Nakachinda, further explained to Muchima that he was acquitted upon appeal in the matter.
