Zambia’s Goal Keeper Kennedy Mweene was Thursday evening hurt when suspected angry South African fans stoned a bus carrying the Zambian National Team after the match that ended 1 – 0 in favour of Zambia.
Mweene is reported to have sustained a head injury though he is well according to the team Doctor, Joseph Kabungo. The Football Association of Zambia is sad with the development.
“Very sad that Zambian bus was stoned and Kennedy Mweene sustained a head injury. Has had stitches and is ok, but the incident was shameful,” the Association stated in a tweet early hours of Thursday morning.
Mweene plays for the Free State Stars in South Africa.
Meanwhile the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) will investigate the reports according to the Association’s Spokesperson.
Zambia who are the currently Africa Champions won South Africa, the host of 2013 AFCON in Nelson Mandela trophy on Wednesday night.
