Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says Lafarge has proved to be a responsible and reliable partner in Government initiatives for road safety.

Dr. Mushimba said this when he paid a courtesy call on the new Lafarge Chief Executive officer (CEO) and his team Tuesday.

The Minister stated that the strong focus Lafarge Zambia has on implementing health and safety best practices cannot not be overlooked, considering that the company has not recorded road fatalities in the past 3years.

“Am proud of your good road management programme because most of the initiatives being implemented in managing safety of your drivers and your fleet can be emulated by other companies” Dr. Mushimba stated.

He further assured Lafarge of the Road Transport and Safety Authority (RTSA’s) support in the upcoming Lafarge Lusaka Marathon to ensure total road closure during the event.

And Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jimmy Khan expressed gratitude at the Minister’s recognition of what Lafarge is doing in terms of safety in the country.

Khan mentioned that Lafarge was proud to be part of a company that upholds Health and safety in the work place and on the road.

“The issue of Road Safety is of great concern to the public and the company as a whole in that lack of it usually would result in poor production due to injuries and fatalities” stated Khan.

He further mentioned that the banner of raising awareness is high at Lafarge and is mostly aimed at promoting behavioural change.

Dr. Mushimba further took time to interact with some of Lafarge employees who were his former colleagues having worked for Lafarge Zambia for more than 6 years.
