Mundubile declares himself PF Presidential candidate for 2026 elections
Patriotic Front senior official Brian Mundubile has declared that he will stand as the party’s presidential candidate for the forthcoming general elections.
“I still stand on the line as PF president and will contest in the 2026 General elections,” he said.
Speaking on Hot FM, Mundubile added that the PF government performed well because the late former President Edgar Lungu took his time in appointing ministers.
“The PF performed well because Lungu took his time when choosing his ministers,” he said.
He made these sentiments while on an interview on Hot FM.
Mundubile is a seasoned public servant with deep experience in governance, law, and national leadership.
As Member of Parliament (MP) for Mporokoso Provincial Minister for Northern Province, he championed development projects that transformed both his constituency and the province at large.
Under his leadership, communities benefited from new schools, hospitals, clean water systems, improved road networks, and youth empowerment programs, thereby delivering tangible results across the region.
He was later appointed Government Chief Whip in Parliament, where he played a key role in strengthening legislative discipline and enhancing the effectiveness of Parliament as a tool for governance and accountability.
His strategic leadership helped drive constructive policy debates and ensured Parliament remained focused on national development priorities.
When his party moved into opposition, Brian was entrusted with the role of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, where he has continued to lead from the front, defending democratic values, providing critical checks and balances, and ensuring that the voice of the Zambian people is not lost in the political process.

Background, Mundubile stood as the Patriotic Front MP candidate in Mporokoso constituency at the August 2016 general election and was elected.
Late former President Edgar Lungu then appointed him as the Provincial minister for Northern Province the following month.
In July 2019, he was transferred to being the government chief whip.
At the August 2021 general election, he stood again as the Patriotic Front MP candidate in Mporokoso and was re-elected.
After the Patriotic Front finished second to the United Party for National Development in the presidential election, Mundubile was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition.
In November 2023, the Patriotic Front president removed him as the leader of the opposition.
