Murder accused Mumbi Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa will spend this Christmas and New Year in Mongu prison, reports Asa Manda.

This follows Mongu High Court judge postponement of the sittings to March 23, 2023 when judgement will be delivered.

This is in matter where Mumbi Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa are being tried in the murder case of UPND cadre Lawrence Banda.

They opened their defence on December 12, 2022 with Mumbi Phiri opting not to say anything. She said she will rely on testimony given by her co-accused Chilekwa.

Chilekwa taking his stand in court said Mumbi Phiri was not at the scene of shooting.

His testimony was supported by another witness a woman from Mongo who said the Police Officers had offered her money to lie that Chilekwa is the one who shot Lawrence Banda.

The two senior former Police Officers also testified on December 13, 2022 with one saying Mumbi Phiri during their investigations told them she was just politicking in a video she was saying she saw Lawrence Banda being shot at.

Six witnesses testified.
