Mugabe in for inauguration of Zambia’s new President

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is in Lusaka to attend the inauguration ceremony of Zambia’s Sixth President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the governing Patriotic Front.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba confirmed that President Mugabe arrived in Zambia on Friday to attend the inuguration ceremony which has since been postepond to Sunday morning.

Two other Presidents expected are Gen. Joseph Kabila of Democratic Republic Congo and his Namibia counterpart.

Lungu was declared winner on Saturday evening in a tightly contested Presidential election where he beat his closest rival Hakainde Hichilema of opposition UPND with 20, 000 votes. Hichilema has disputed the poll saying it was manipulated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia in favour of Lungu.

President Mugabe was a close friend of late Zambian President Michael Sata who he considered to be his twin brother. President Sata died in a London hospital on October 28, 2015.
