MP warns heavy duty truck drivers against damaging new township roads

Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament for Bwana Mkubwa Jonas Chanda has issued a stern warning to heavy duty truck drivers against driving through newly-constructed township roads in his constituency that are not designed to carry heavy industrial loads, saying they are damaging roads on which Government has spent a lot of money to help residents.

Dr Chanda was responding to complaints raised by residents of Ndeke township that heavy duty truck drivers were avoiding using the industrial Chiwala-Chilanga road and had instead resorted to driving through the newly constructed Chipata crescent and Magezi roads which have suffered some pot holes barely a year after being constructed.

And the lawmaker says the clogging of new township roads by heavy duty trucks in densely populated residential areas further risked people’s lives through road traffic accidents because motorists would try to overtake slow moving truck convoys, while trucks which broke down also blocked the roads.

Dr Chanda has since advised all companies and heavy duty truck drivers operating in the industrial area of Bwana Mkubwa Constituency to stick to designated industrial roads rather than damaging new township roads and inconveniencing residents through traffic jams.

Meanwhile, the Bwana Mkubwa Lawmaker has urged residents in the Constituency to take full responsibility in safeguarding and protecting all newly constructed township roads and drainage systems which the PF government had constructed at a huge cost, saying the people are the government themselves.

“People complained about bad roads. The listening pro-poor PF government heard your cries and constructed these roads. Government is still continuing to construct more roads. It is therefore your duty as Citizens to jealously guard and protect these roads, drainage systems and other public property. Such sayings like FYA BOMA and BOMA IYANGANEPO are NOT progressive because you the Citizens are the BOMA. WE BUTEKO NIWE WINE WEMWINE WA CHALO,” Dr Chanda said in a statement today.
