It has been revealed that Zambia is ranked the lowest in civil, birth and death registration in Africa.

Speaking when he officially opened a media training workshop on birth registration being held in Chisamba at Protea Safari Lodge, Registrar General for national registration, passport and citizenship in the Ministry Of Home Affairs, Mathew Nyirongo said that Zambia currently stands at 11.2 percent on registration of the entire population in the Country.

Nyirongo attributes the low registration to lack of awareness, long distances that people have to walk and decentralization of birth and death registration.

He however says government remains committed in ensuring that death and birth are registered for the protection of the country by launching awareness and decentralize the registration process.

And speaking earlier, UNICEF Chief of Child Protection Katlin BRANSIC reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to support the Zambian government in the death and birth registration, especially child birth.
