More violence: PF cadres attack UPND mobilisation meeting in Chawama

13626331_1191875677529847_5335341249750145612_n13615402_1191875684196513_8287958972832091285_nSeveral UPND cadres have been left injured after a gang of ruling PF cadres stormed a UPND mobilisation meeting at a house.

The meeting was in preparation of a UPND rally expected to be addressed by the party’s presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba at Lewis ground in Kuku compound tomorrow.

By press time, police had moved in to quell the skirmishes but no arrests where made. The injured have reportedly been taken to Chawama clinic by the police.

According to some party officials, the UPND applied for a permit to hold a rally in Chawama two weeks ago but as of this morning they were told to make a follow-up 14:00 hours.

Meanwhile, UPND candidate for Chawama constituency Potpher Tembo has complained of unabated acts violence, intimidation and provocation by PF cadres in the area.

Featuring on a special interview alongside Lusaka Central parliamentary candidate Charlotte Scott on Radio Phoenix this morning, Tembo revealed that the PF in Chawama had erected a tent on the venue of tomorrow’s rally in an attempt to stop the event from taking place.

He however appealed to his party’s supporters to not retaliate when attacked but instead punish the PF through the ballot.
